What is the TEAS Test?

The ATI TEAS Test is a nationally recognized pre-admissions test for nursing students, administered by Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI). The TEAS exam is a 209 minute, standardized, timed computer-based exam.

Consisting of 170 multiple-choice questions with four-option answers, in four separate timed sections in reading, English and language usage, math and science. The TEAS exam is administered in a standardized environment and is overseen by a proctor.

The ATI TEAS test is required in order to apply for a nursing or allied health professional program. The test has been proven to be a statistically significant predictor of early nursing program success.

Programs utilize the test and scores to recognize which students need extra attention and which ones are not a good fit for the program.

What is on the TEAS Test

Reading: 53 questions, 64 minutes

Math: 36 questions, 54 minutes

The math section of the ATI TEAS test is one of the more challenging sections for a lot of students. Science: 53 questions, 63 minutes

The ATI TEAS science question by far has the most material that you will need to study and covers a very broad area of A&P, life sciences and chemistry. English and Language Usage: 28 questions, 28 minutes

How hard Is the TEAS Test?

The TEAS test is a difficult test by any students standards. However the level of difficulty for any one students has many variables which make this question very subjective.

The good new is that according to ATI, all the material on the test does not go beyond a high school level, with that said, remembering everything we learned over four years of high school is no easy task.

The biggest factor is how well you know the material when you begin studying. If you have been out of school for 20 years then approaching these topics again can be more difficult.

If English is your second language you might find the English and reading sections to be more difficult than a native speaker would.

When it comes to science students who have taken A&P 1 and 2 college courses have a major head start than those who don’t.
