Application and Online Assessment Questionnaire
Once the USAJOBS CBP Officer (CBPO) application and online assessment questionnaire have been submitted for pay grades GS-5 and/or GS-7, eligible applicants will receive an invitation to take the online Candidate Experience Record and schedule the CBPO Entrance Examination at a local testing center.
Note: Applicants who have specialized law enforcement or import and export experience may be eligible for the CBPO GS-9 grade level. The CBPO GS-9 does not have an Entrance Examination requirement. Find out what pay grade you may be eligible to start at based on your experience and/or education by using the CBPO Qualifications Aid and the CBPO Resume Aid. Then Apply Here!
Applicants can generally expect to receive an emailed Notice of Results with a determination of eligibility within 2-3 weeks of submitting their application or after taking the Entrance Exam, if applicable.
Scheduling and Preparing for the CBPO Entrance Examination:
Scheduling the proctored exam as soon as possible will ensure the most options for testing. Note: You may have to extend the search radius to find a test center closest to you. It is best to use a desktop or laptop computer when scheduling, rather than a tablet or phone.
Please allow approximately 4 hours to complete the CBPO Proctored Entrance Exam.
Proper test preparation is essential for the successful candidate; therefore, we strongly encourage you to review the CBP Officer Study Guides and take the CBP Officer Entrance Exam PreTest. The pretest is a preview of the types of questions you can expect to see on the actual exam.
You will be evaluated based on your resume, supporting documents, and the CBPO Entrance Examination. The entrance examination consists of two parts: 1) the online assessment and 2) the proctored exam taken at a local testing center. The proctored exam contains the following 3 assessments: Logical Reasoning, Arithmetic Reasoning, and Writing Skills. To be eligible, applicants must pass the exam with a score of at least 70.
Test scores before March 16, 2021, are no longer valid. After you take the Entrance Exam, you will not be able to retake the exam for six months regardless of whether you pass or fail.
